Album of the month: September 2026

Each month, we’ll be asking members of the Soundline team to choose an album they’ve been enjoying and share a few thoughts about why it’s worth a listen. The picks could be new releases, old favourites, hidden gems or albums we’ve recently rediscovered.

There are no rules and no particular theme — just great music chosen by people who love listening to it.

So, to kick things off, here’s what the Soundline team has been listening to this September.

James - Soundline Christchurch

Dig - Boz Scaggs

I didn't know about this artist until yesterday. A Client requested it during a demo and I was blown away by the mastering and I love the style.
Its kind of funky Jazzy sounding but with a TONNE of heavy Bass which serves a powerful, solid backdrop to the clean vocals and saxaphone forground.
I'm playing the album at the moment in the showroom and so far every song is fun sounding, especially on the Piega 801's.

Ben - Soundline Christchurch

The Kinks - Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One

A great concept album that cheekily lambasts the music industry from many angles. Musically, it covers a wide range, from folky ballads to full-on rockers to quasi-reggae, yet it manages to tie all these genres together—including big hits like "Lola"—with its style and storytelling. There is some seriously great guitar work on "Rats" and "Powerman" and some of my favourite songwriting on tracks like "Strangers" and "This Time Tomorrow". There are a few different versions floating around out there on LP, with lyrical changes and censorship, so it makes for an interesting collectible, as well. This is a personal high-water mark from an all-time great band, definitely worth a listen.
