What type of speaker is the Silver 500 8G?
It's the flagship 3-way floorstanding speaker in the Silver Series 8G range, combining twin 8-inch C-CAM bass drivers, a dedicated 3-inch midrange driver, and a 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter.
Is it meant for stereo listening, home cinema, or both?
Both. It performs strongly as a stereo pair for music, and also works as the main front left/right speakers in a larger Silver Series AV system for home cinema.
Why twin 8-inch bass drivers?
The twin 8-inch bass drivers are what give the Silver 500 8G its commanding bass extension and dynamic headroom, distinguishing it from the smaller Silver 300 and Silver 100 models. An upgraded motor system enhances power handling and lowers distortion, ensuring consistent, dynamic performance even at high output levels.
Why does it have three drivers instead of two?
The 3-way design splits duties between bass, midrange and treble. The dedicated 3-inch midrange driver, housed in its own enclosure, keeps vocals and mid-frequencies focused and natural, rather than asking the bass drivers to also cover the midrange.
What is Silent Flow port technology?
It's Monitor Audio's owl-feather-inspired port design. A larger, fluted shape guides airflow more smoothly through the cabinet, reducing turbulence and "chuffing" for deeper, cleaner, more controlled bass than a conventional port.
What are the outrigger feet for?
They're an all-new design inspired by the flagship Platinum Series 3G, providing a wider, more stable footprint to match the speaker's scale and weight. A discreet top-adjust mechanism, hidden beneath a spun metal disc, allows precise levelling, and the spikes can be removed to reveal integrated rubber feet for use on hard floors.
What finishes is it available in?
Three: High Gloss Black, Satin White, and European Walnut. The Walnut is a real wood veneer, crafted from sustainably engineered timber to achieve the look of exotic hardwood without using rare or endangered species.
Does it come with speaker grilles?
Yes — bespoke magnetic grilles are included as standard with every finish.
What amplifier power does it need?
Monitor Audio recommends 125–500 W into 4 Ohms, or 60–250 W into 8 Ohms. Continuous power handling is rated at 250 W.
What's the nominal impedance?
8 Ohms, with a minimum impedance of 3.6 Ohms at 2 kHz.
What's the frequency response?
28 Hz – 35 kHz, measured in-room at -6dB — the deepest bass extension in the Silver 8G range.
How big and heavy is it?
1120 x 340 x 432 mm (H x W x D), weighing 24.3 kg each.
Can I pair it with a subwoofer?
Yes — Monitor Audio's Vestra subwoofer range is designed to complement the Silver Series 8G, though given the Silver 500's own bass extension, a subwoofer is more about extending the very lowest frequencies for film than compensating for a shortfall.
How does the Silver 500 8G compare to the Silver 300 8G?
The Silver 500 is the range-topping model, with twin 8-inch bass drivers versus the Silver 300's twin 6-inch drivers, giving it deeper bass extension, a higher maximum SPL (119 dB vs. 116 dB), and greater power handling. It's the better choice for larger rooms or listeners wanting maximum scale and headroom.
